Michael Phelps Discusses Orlando Shootings in Newest Facebook Live

22-time Olympic medalist Michael Phelps has posted the latest installment of his ongoing weekly “Facebook Live” video series, and opened by discussing Sunday’s tragic shooting at a night club in Orlando, Florida.

“I woke up this morning to the tragic news from Orlando,” Phelps said in part. “My hearts and prayers go out to all the people who were affected by that…it was mindblowing, it’s unbelievable. We live in a very strange society, and a very different society.”

He addressed it again later in his video, saying “It’s unbelievable. I just can’t believe that things like that happen in our society, but they do and we have to try to figure out how we can prevent it and stop that from happening. It’s very, very sad and again my heart goes out to everyone that’s…I woke up and was in a state of shock when I turned the TV on. Nicole and I sat here and watched NBC for about 3 hours this morning.”

Since his first child, Boomer, was born a few weeks back, Phelps’ videos have been more focused on baby-talk, but he does still get in some good training. This video features frequent cameos from his fiancee Nicole Johnson.

Other Things Phelps discusses in his latest video:

  • Boomer didn’t really like swimming.
  • Boomer’s baby clothes for the Olympic Trials have been picked out.
  • Baby Grevers.
  • Sunday training – where it’s more of a day to just get in and “stay connected” to the water than about counting yardage – he says that Allison Schmitt did about 1500 meters, Chase Kalisz did about 2500 meters, and that he doesn’t think he swam anywhere close to that.
  • Allison Schmitt has become the family live-in chef, making things she sees on Pinterest.
  • Phelps is rooting for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
  • He still hasn’t had a drink of alcohol in over a year-and-a-half, and says that he sees a huge difference without having alcohol in his life.
  • Phelps’ squat goal is 400 pounds, because that’s what Ian Thorpe did.
  • Boomer is eating out of a bottle.
  • Phelps can dunk a basketball.
  • He reaffirms that it’s his last Olympics in swimming.
  • Allison Schmitt got a Dairy Queen ice cream cake for her birthday from her brother. Michael claims to have eaten the whole thing.
  • He started on Sunday watching past races and visualizing from some of the best races of his career.
