Brock Bonetti, a 5’10 senior out of Bakersfield, California, has verbally committed to the University of Minnesota.
Bonetti has yards bests of 49.41 in the 100 back and 1:47.25 in the 200 back, and is a World Championship Trials qualifier in the long course versions of both races as well (56.90 and 2:03.95).
Bonetti has a long, lean build, and should make huge initial progress if he handles the transition to a college weight training program well: he’s already going 49′s with a lot of physical development still to go.
This is a group where Minnesota needs help in a big way. In the 2012-2013 season, their fastest was only 49.3 in this race. They’ve certainly improved that situation with Daryl Turner, who is a freshman this fall and the Colorado High School State Record holder, but Bonetti will add some big depth.
Bonetti swims for Roadrunner Aquatics.
