Backstroker Brock Bonetti Verbals to Minnesota

Brock Bonetti, a 5’10 senior out of Bakersfield, California, has verbally committed to the University of Minnesota.

Bonetti has yards bests of 49.41 in the 100 back and 1:47.25 in the 200 back, and is a World Championship Trials qualifier in the long course versions of both races as well (56.90 and 2:03.95).

Bonetti has a long, lean build, and should make huge initial progress if he handles the transition to a college weight training program well: he’s already going 49’s with a lot of physical development still to go.

This is a group where Minnesota needs help in a big way. In the 2012-2013 season, their fastest was only 49.3 in this race. They’ve certainly improved that situation with Daryl Turner, who is a freshman this fall and the Colorado High School State Record holder, but Bonetti will add some big depth.

Bonetti swims for Roadrunner Aquatics.

Minnesota has also added freshman Noah Busch, who went 49.14 to win the 2013 Minnesota state high school championship in the 100y back. Busch was a teammate of David Plummer at Minnetonka Swim Club.
