Wyoming Cowboys sweep WAC weekly awards

DENVER, Colo. (Jan. 20, 2015) – The University of Wyoming swimming and diving team swept the weekly Western Athletic Conference honors Tuesday afternoon. Senior Adam Kalms was named Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season. Freshman Austin Rettinghouse was named Diver of the Week for the first time in his career. It marks the first time the Pokes have swept the weekly awards since Ryan Nelson and Derek Campbell accomplished the feat on Feb. 5, 2014.

 

Kalms, a senior from Marmong Point, Australia, led the Pokes to a 176-124 win over regional rival Denver on Saturday. Kalms won the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.93.  He also added a win in the 200 freestyle at 1:38.96.  Kalms won both relays for the Cowboys helping his team to a win in the 200 medley (1:30.80) and 400 free relay (3:04.66).

 

Rettinghouse, a freshman from Worland, Wyo., led the Cowboy divers in the win over Denver. He won his first career event taking the 3-meterspringboard with a career-best tally of 306.77. His mark on the 3-meter board was the fourth-best in the conference this season. He also placed third in the 1-meter event with a score of 271.35.
