Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Isaac Fleig, the 2021 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division II champion in 500 freestyle and 200 IM, has verbally committed to Kentucky.

I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Kentucky. A special thanks goes to my coaches, teammates, and parents who have pushed me to become the swimmer I am today. Go CATS!”

Fleig is a member of the class of 2023 at Cedarburg High School. He trains during the school year with Ozaukee Aquatics, then trains with the Mission Viejo Nadadores in the summer.

In addition to his state championship wins, Fleig also won eighth place in the 1500 freestyle at the West Speedo Summer Championships. In 2020, Fleig set the Wisconsin 13-14 400 IM SCY record with a time of 4:02.78.

In 2019, Fleig moved to 3rd place all-time in the 13-14 Wisconsin swimming LCM rankings in the 200 butterfly, with a time of 2:11.61. He also earned the LCM age group record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:42.06. He has Futures cuts in the 500 and 1000 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 IM, and 100 butterfly. He has Winter Juniors cuts in the 200 butterfly and 400 IM, and a Summer Juniors cuts in the 1650 freestyle. He made our “Best of the Rest” section on the Way Too Early List of boys recruits from the class of 2023.

His best short course times are:

  • 500 freestyle: 4:33.75
  • 1000 freestyle: 9:27.74
  • 1650 freestyle: 15:29.29
  • 200 butterfly: 1:49.03
  • 400 IM: 3:56.73

The University of Kentucky is a member of the Southeastern Conference. At the 2021 SEC championships, Kentucky placed seventh out of 10 teams. At that meet, Fleig would have placed in the top 25 in the 1650 freestyle, though of the Kentucky men who would have placed ahead of Fleig, only Zane Rosely will still remain on the team when Fleig arrives, depending on who uses the optional fifth year.

Last season, Fleig would have had the fourth-fastest 1650 freestyle, 200 butterfly, and 400 IM performance for the team, and the eighth-fastest 500 freestyle.

While Kentucky has already recruited five women from the class of 2023, Fleig is the first commitment for the men.
