Wisconsin Sprinter Gwen Gustafson Verbally Commits to BYU

Gwen Gustafson has verbally committed to Brigham Young University for next fall. Gustafson is a senior at Brookfield Central High School, and she trains with Elmbrook Swim Club, just outside of Milwaukee.

TOP TIMES

  • 50y free 23.13
  • 100y free 51.38
  • 200y free 1:52.65
  • 100y breast 1:04.61
  • 50m free 26.60
  • 100m free 58.73

Gustafson is primarily a sprint freestyler, but she’s solid in sprint breaststroke as well.

At the 2017 Wisconsin Division 1 State Championships, Gustafson placed in the top three in two different events. She touched 2nd in the 50 free (23.28) and then was 3rd in the 100 free (51.41), just off of her best times.

Gustafson should be an immediate asset to the BYU Cougars when she gets to campus in the fall. She would have scored in the A final at the 2017 MPSF Championships in the 50 free, and would’ve been just off of making the A final in the 100 free there, too. She also would’ve been fast enough to score in B finals of the 100 breast and 200 free.

No BYU woman split faster than 51.0 on their 400 free relay at the MPSF Champs last year, and there was only one sub-23 split on their 200 free relay. Gustafson could slot in as their top sprinter next year, right off the bat.
