Wisconsin Distance Freestyler Maggie Held Gives Verbal to Oakland

Maggie Held from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, has elected to spend the next four years swimming at Oakland University. She shared, “I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to Oakland University. I fell in love right away when I stepped on campus. The team was so kind, the coaches are so passionate and hardworking, and the campus was beautiful. I am very excited to be joining the team next fall!”

Held is a senior at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wisconsin. She specializes in distance freestyle, fly and IM. At the 2015 WIAA Girls Division 1 State Meet she placed eighth in the 200 free (1:52.98) and fourth in the 500 free (4:59.11); both times were personal bests. Held also swims for her club, Lake Country Swim Team. Most of her best times over the last several seasons have come at the short-course and long-course versions of the Wisconsin 13 & Over State Championships. She also had a very successful meet at 2016 Dolfin Junior National Championship Cup, competing in the 200/500free, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM and making finals in the 500/400 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM (SCY in prelims, LCM in finals). She also swam the 800 free and placed 8th.

Her best SCY times include:

  • 200 free – 1:52.98
  • 500 free – 4:59.11
  • 1000 free – 10:23.10
  • 1650 free – 17:27.78
  • 400 IM – 4:31.60
  • 200 IM – 2:11.34
  • 200 fly – 2:08.93
