Winter Juniors qualifier Maddy Timson has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at Missouri State University beginning in the fall of 2027. She publicized the news in an email to SwimSwam, writing:
I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue both my academic and athletic career at Missouri State University! First, I want to thank my family, teammates, and friends for being my biggest supporters—I truly would not be the person or swimmer I am today without all of you. I would also like to thank all of my coaches, especially Coach Carmen, for your support and guidance throughout my swimming career. Finally, a big thank you to Coach Dave and Coach Chelsea for giving me this incredible opportunity. I’m so excited for what’s ahead! GO BEARS!!
A junior at Blue Valley North High School in Kansas, Timson currently trains year-round with the Empire KC Swim Club, where she primarily specializes in backstroke and IM.
Timson is coming off a monumental 2025-26 short course season that saw her drop nearly 14 seconds in the 400 IM, over three seconds in the 200 back, almost three seconds in the 200 IM, and a second and a half in the 100 back.
Her most successful meet of the season came at Speedo Sectionals – Columbia in March, where she logged the majority of her current lifetime bests. She finished 11th in the 200 back (1:59.25), 14th in the 100 back (56.57), and 17th in the 400 IM (4:21.52) while also taking on some off-events. Her times in the 200 back and 400 IM dipped under the Winter Junior Championships time standards of 1:59.39 and 4:21.69, qualifying her for this December’s meet.
While she did not swim the 200 IM at Sectionals, she clocked her best time of 2:06.59 at a club meet a few weeks prior.
A three-time Kansas high school state champion, Timson represented Blue Valley North at the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) 6A State Championships her first two years. As a freshman, she helped the school win both the 200 medley and 400 free relays while taking second in the 100 back and third in the 200 IM. Last year, she helped defend the 200 medley relay title and finished fourth in both the 100 back and 200 IM.

A Division I program, Missouri State competes in the Missouri Valley Conference, where the women’s team placed third out of nine teams at this past season’s conference championships. Timson projects as a major points contributor for year one, as her current personal bests would have placed her third in the 200 back, fourth in the 400 IM, 11th in the 100 back, and 16th in the 200 IM (and she still has two full seasons before her first conference meet).
With several recruiting classes still to be finalized before she arrives on campus, plus graduations and potential transfers, it is far too early to project the team’s depth chart and conference outlook for the 2027-28 season.
Timson joins Erika Brown (fly/middle-distance free) as the only publicized commits in the Bears’ class of 2031, while breaststroker Lauren Konarske is the only publicized commit in the class of 2030.
