Fort Wayne Swim Team’s Maris Williams has verbally committed to the University of Notre Dame’s women’s team for the fall of 2027.

At the 2024 Winter Junior Championships – East last December, in the 50 freestyle, she swam a best time of 23.86, placing 83rd. She has since bested that time in 23.49 at the IN FORT Fall In The Pool earlier this November. At those Winter Junior Championships, Williams finished 66th in the 100 butterfly (56.15) and 80th in the 100 free (51.81).
Williams represents Carroll High School in Fort Wayne, Ind. In each of the last two editions of the IHSAA Girls State Championships, she has notched best times. As a freshman, she set best times in both the 100 free (51.12, 7th overall) and the 200 free (1:51.34, 10th). The following year, as a sophomore, she bettered her 100 free time, moving up to 5th place in 50.91.
Williams also holds best times in the 100 fly of 54.76 from the IN Fort Fall In The Pool meet this November, and a 500 free lifetime best of 5:14.05 from the Indiana Swimming Senior Championships from March of 2024.

The Notre Dame women finished 12th at the 2025 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships last season.
Based on Williams’ best times, she would have tied for 67th in the 50 free, 51st in the 100 fly, 69th in the 100 free, and 58th in the 200 free at those ACC championships.
Williams is still a bit outside of the ACC scoring threshold at this point. Her progression suggests that she is capable of reaching that scoring range, especially in the 100 fly.
Her best time in the 100 fly sits less than two seconds off of the 24th-place time at last season’s ACC Championships (52.96).
Williams joins Sarah Paisley Owen and Meghan Bluethmann in the Fighting Irish’s 2027 recruiting class.
