Wingate Bulldogs Nab Germany’s Leo Zabudkin for Fall

Leo Zabudkin has committed to swim for Wingate University, joining the class of 2020 in Wingate, North Carolina this fall. Zabudkin swims for SG Frankfurt where he specializes mainly in breaststroke events.

“My goals coming to Wingate and competing in the NCAA system are of course getting better sportswise but also being able to maintain swimming on a high level while studying.”

Wingate competes in the NCAA Division II and is a member of the coach-run, single-sport Bluegrass Mountain Conference. After winning seven consecutive conference championships, the Bulldogs have finished second to Queens University of Charlotte in each of the last two years. Zabudkin will add to Wingate’s strength in the breast and IM areas, as he has been improving in both over the last year. His SCM times in the IM come from the current season.

    SCY, converted
50 LCM breast 30.47 26.38
100 LCM breast 1:05.10 56.37
200 LCM breast 2:20.62 2:02.05
100 SCM breast 1:03.48 57.51
200 SCM breast 2:16.96 2:04.08
200 SCM IM 2:07.61 1:55.61
400 SCM IM 4:34.36 4:08.57

Zabudkin would have scored in the A final in the 200 breast at 2016 BMC Championships, and would have been on the A/B bubble in the 100 breast. Moreover he would have made B finals in both the 200 and 400 IM. Zabudkin will join Ben Evans in Wingate’s class of 2020.
