Windsor Lands FINA Convention

The city of Windsor was awarded the FINA convention, which will bring hundreds of delegates to the city over 3 days. They’ll now host the event in addition to the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships.

Mayor Drew Dilkens traveled to Kazan, Russia, where FINA is hosting the 2015 World Championships, to make a case for holding the convention in Windsor. During the convention, Windsor will have a FINA medical symposium during the convention that will bring in international participants to discuss anti-doping strategies and sports-related health issues.

The convention will take place in early December 2016, before the competition. It will take place at Caesars Windsor, but it’s expected to bring hundreds to the core of the city for tourist attractions such as shops, bars, and restaurants. Bringing Olympic and World Champion athletes brings excitement to the city.

Over 500 delegates will come to Windsor for the convention, and over 1500 of the best aquatics athletes and coaches will arrive for Worlds.

The city will build a temporary 25-meter pool for the meet at the WFCU Center. This will hold up to 5,000 spectators. For as long as  a month prior to Worlds, the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre will be available as a warm-up pool.
