WIAA D1 Runner-up Hailey Tierney (2023) Verbally Commits to Wisconsin

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Hailey Tierney from Pewaukee, Wisconsin, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin for the 2023-24 school year.

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  I’m beyond thankful for my coaches, family, friends, and God for helping me achieve this. ON WISCONSIN!!!❤️🤍”

Tierney, a backstroke and freestyle specialist, is a junior at Arrowhead High School. She swims year-round with Lake Country Swim Team. She is a Winter US Open qualifier in the 100 back and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 50/100 free and 100 fly. At the finals of the 2021 Wisconsin High School Division 1 State Championships in November, she was runner-up in the 100 back (53.85), placed 3rd in the 50 free (22.85), and led off the second-place 400 free relay (50.14). She earned lifetime bests in all three events at the state meet.

A week later at the Fall Western Great Lakes Open, she won the 100 free, 200 back and 100 fly, touched 3rd in the 100/200 IM, and came in 7th in the 50 fly, all while notching lifetime bests in the 200 back, 50/100 fly, and 100/200 IM.

She wrapped up 2021 at Winter Juniors-East where she swam the 50/100 free, 100 back, and 100 fly and came in 12th in both the 50 free and 100 back.

Tierney will be an immediate-impact player for the Badgers. Her 100 back time would have been one of the fastest in the B final at last year’s conference meet, which Wisconsin freshman Phoebe Bacon won in 51.32. In addition, Tierney’s 50 free time would have been just shy of the B final, her 100 fly would have made the C final, and her 100 free would have been on the cusp of the C final at the 2021 Big Ten Championships.

Best SCY times:

  • 200 back – 2:00.64
  • 100 back – 53.65
  • 50 back – 25.57
  • 50 free – 22.85
  • 100 free – 50.14
  • 50 fly – 24.84
  • 100 fly – 54.58
  • 200 IM – 2:04.98

Tierney will join the Wisconsin class of 2027 with Kit Schneider and Maddie Waggoner.
