Virginia will unveil its 2025 Women’s NCAA Championship banner this Friday in its dual meet against UNC. There will be two sessions of the meet.

The 1000 freestyle will occur at 10 am on Friday morning and it will be a scored event. After the 1000 free will be all of the exhibition races during the morning session.

The 4:00 pm session includes the rest of the dual meet lineup with the NCAA Championship banner unveiled just before the start of the meet at 3:55 pm. Virginia has already revealed on Instagram that the banner is orange, contrasting its previous four banners of two blue and two white from the last four years.

The 4:00 pm session will feature its relays which will be scored 10 points for the winning team and five for the other team. This is different than the 11-4-2 scoring for most dual meet relays.

In addition, the 50 and 100 freestyles will not be competed at the individual level. Instead, the leadoff leg that touches for the freestyle relays will score an additional 5 points. The 200 medley relay will not award an additional five points for the 50 back.

The Virginia women sit at the top of SwimSwam’s Early Season Power Rankings while the UNC women sit at #13. The teams split their dual meet last year with the Virginia women winning 213.5-85.5. The UNC men won the meet 208.5-91.5.

It’s surprising that UVA doesn’t have any (announced) female commits for 2027 yet…

this is a UVA home meet and they chose to not have 50 or 100 free? interesting

Could be compromise for not competing in diving. Or, will UNC get diving points by default?

UNC is getting the diving points.

That banner ceremony seems a bit like a power move against long-time conference rival UNC.

Remember when the UVA-UNC rival was like peak swimming rivalries? I hope we can bring that back.

Lol I can evidence first hand that UNC played their role in the rivalry well. The number of “you wrote 482 words about Virginia and only 478 words about UNC” emails I got in that era…

The only other home meet is in January against Penn State, and that is already Senior day. Having the banner ceremony this week is the only viable option.

Could be that or the fact they just have only 1 home meet this semester.
