Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Elena Amos of Kingwood, Texas, has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study as part of Utah’s class of 2030. She publicized the news on Instagram, writing:
God is so good. I am SO incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Utah! I would like to thank my family, friends, most importantly God, and my coaches for all the support they’ve given me through out this entire process. Lastly I would like to thank Coach Jonas, Coach Aly and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me this incredible opportunity & letting me achieve my dream of going D1. GO UTES!
Amos is currently in the midst of her senior year at Kingwood Park High School, where she has been a member of the varsity swim team since her freshman year. Outside of the high school season, she swims with Eagle Swim Association. She’s a pure sprinter, strong in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, as well as the 50 and 100 freestyle.
All of Amos’ current lifetime bests date back to the 2024-25 season, when she produced 23.40/51.25 in the sprint freestyles, 55.07 in the 100 back, and 55.48 in the 100 fly. She swam her 50 and 100 free personal bests at a local club meet, the TISCA West Houston Invitational in November 2024, and set her 100 fly best at another local meet a month later, the Gulf Southern Senior Championship Invitational.
Her 100 back best came at last February’s UIL Region 4-5A Championships, where she won the event along with the 50 free (23.44). It was a three-peat in the 50 free, giving her a chance to go four-for-four at the meet next month. She also won the sprint free double as a sophomore and finished third in the 100 fly as a freshman.
The regional meet was held two weeks before the 5A State Championships, where she claimed double bronze in the 50 free (23.58) and 100 back (55.92). It marked her first time medaling at the state meet after placing sixth in the 50 free and ninth in the 100 fly as a sophomore, and picking up a pair of ninth-place finishes in the 50 free and 100 fly as a freshman.
Beyond the high school and club swimming scene, she competed on the international stage last August, representing El Salvador at the Junior Pan American Games. Held in long course meters, she touched 31st in the 50 free (28.04) and 32nd in the 100 free (1:00.86), about a second shy of her 26.94 and 59.42 lifetime bests set in May 2025 and November 2023, respectively.
Amos most recently competed at the Winter Junior Championships West in December, placing 88th in the 100 fly (57.00), 90th in the 100 back (58.48), and 124th in the 100 free (53.05), registering season bests in all three events as she heads into the high school championship season in a few weeks’ time.
- 50 Freestyle: 23.40
- 100 Freestyle: 51.25
- 100 Backstroke: 55.07
- 100 Butterfly: 55.48
The conference meet scores ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals, and Amos’ lifetime bests are within striking distance of what it took to score last season. She’s just eight hundredths shy of the 54.99 required to make the ‘C’ final in the 100 back, just over two tenths away from the 22.95 cutoff in the 50 free, and about four tenths from the 55.10 needed in the 100 fly. In the 100 free, it took a time of 50.48 to earn a second swim.
On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Amos would have ranked third in the 100 back, fifth in the 100 fly and 100 free, and sixth in the 50 free. With several upperclassmen having graduated or set to graduate in May, she’ll have opportunities to contribute immediately in dual meets, with the potential to score at the conference meet as a freshman.
Amos joins Ana Diedrichs, Linnea Florin, and Avery Whorton in committing to the Utes’ class of 2030. Diedrichs brings a 53.99 100 back and sprint free times of 24.0/50.6, while Florin contributes versatility as a sprinter with 23.68/51.36 bests and a 54.93 100 fly. Whorton rounds out the class as a distance swimmer strong in freestyle, IM, and fly. Together, Amos, Diedrichs, and Florin will form the future core of Utah’s sprint free relays and provide strong options across the medley relays during their time in Salt Lake City.
