Versatile Mitch Hovis of King Aquatic Club Verbally Commits to Wyoming

Mitch Hovis of King Aquatic Club in Federal Way, Washington, has given his verbal commitment to the University of Wyoming for 2017-18.

While he specializes in breaststroke and IMs, Hovis is a versatile talent who will contribute in any number of ways to the Cowboys. Hovis competed in the 100m breast (he finished 8th), 200m breast and 200m IM at the 2016 Speedo Junior Nationals. In July he won the 200m IM and was an A finalist in the 100m breast, 100m fly, and 400m IM, and 9th in the 100m free, at the Pacific Northwest Senior Championships. He also won the 100m breast at Sectionals in Federal Way.

In short course season Hovis placed third in the 100y breast and 7th in the 200y breast at 2015 Speedo Winter Juniors West in Austin. He also competed in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes at AT&T Nationals the week before.

Hovis’ times include:

  SCY LCM
50 breast 26.12 29.84
100 breast 55.11 1:03.98
200 breast 2:01.16 2:20.11
200 IM 1:51.98 2:08.45
400 IM 4:01.95 4:44.50

Hovis would have added points to the Cowboys’ tally at the 2016 WAC Championships in the 100 breast (B final), 200 breast (B final), 200 IM (C final), and 400 IM (C final).
