Van Wijk, De Groot Raced On Day Two Of 2026 Rotterdam Qualification Meet

2026 ROTTERDAM QUALIFICATION MEET

Day two of the 2026 Rotterdam Qualification Meet transpired in the Netherlands with several of the nation’s record holders welcoming swimmers from Belgium, Germany and beyond.

Although not a selection meet for the European Championships, it is a qualifying competition for the younger set striving to make the grade for this year’s European Junior Championships slated for July 7th through July 12th in Munich, Germany.

21-year-old Milou van Wijk doubled up on her 100m free victory from night one with a gold medal-worthy performance in the 50m free.

She stopped the clock at a mark of 24.85 as the sole swimmer of the field under the 25-second barrier.

Valerie van Roon was next to the wall in 25.08, followed by Kim Busch, who rounded out the podium a hair later in 25.11.

Van Wijk remains ranked 13th in the world this season, courtesy of the 24.64 she put up at the Giant Open in France last month.

The women’s 100m back saw Maaike de Waard take the decisive victory, clocking a result of 1:00.10.

She got to the wall well over a second ahead of the pack, with Lotte Hosper securing silver in 1:01.71 and Lina Kroeger of Germany bagging the bronze in 1:01.81.

On the men’s side, Kenzo Simons proved too quick to catch in the 50m free, registering a winning outing of 22.12.

There was a tie for the runner-up position, as Brandon van den Berg and Germany’s Moritz Schaller shared the second tier of the podium in 22.46.

National record holder Koen de Groot raced in a one-man time trial of the 100m breast.

The 22-year-old Florida Gator touched in 1:00.80 to produce the 11th-swiftest performance of his young career. His PB remains at the 59.93 notched at the 2023 Rotterdam Qualification in December of that year, his sole result ever under the minute barrier.
