Day two of the 2026 Indy Spring Cup saw a number of fast swims from some of the fastest-rising stars in the sport.

The meet kicked off with a stacked women’s 100 freestyle final, which went to Indiana breakout star Liberty Clark in 53.72, a new meet record time. This swim was a three-tenth drop from her previous best of 54.03, which she swam at the U.S. Open Championships in December. Her pre-season best was 54.41 from the Junior Nationals in July.

Alex Shackell finished 2nd in 54.59, about half a second off her lifetime best of 54.03 from August of 2023. She was just ahead of Anna Peplowski, who finished 3rd in 54.90, seven tenths off her best of 54.23.

In the men’s 100 breaststroke, Van Mathias swam the top time of 59.30 to come in almost two seconds ahead of the rest of the field. This swim was about a second add from the blistering 58.19 mark he set last month at the Bergen Swim Festival, but would still be faster than his pre-season best of 59.74 from last August.

There were a few other big names who won events. Alex Shackell swam the top time in the women’s 200 fly of 2:10.18. She added about a second from the 2:09.30 season best she set at the U.S. Open Championships in December.

Antoine Sauve, one of the top sprint freestylers in Canada, swam 49.87 to win the men’s 100 freestyle in a very close race over Owen McDonald, who touched just one hundredth back in 49.88.

Interesting that Andrew Shackell is listed with Indiana Swim Club. I guess he’s going with the normal college swimming experience and training with the college team over the summer.

That may be true … or it may be a large assumption based on club affiliation for one meet.

Was it IU or Indiana Swim Club? Why not Carmel since he’s been training and doing that half in half out thing at IU? Seems like another Cal, Texas situation…

Meet Mobile lists him with Indiana Swim Club, but you’re thinking of his older brother Aaron.

Mathias throwing down 59 lows at training meets is an awesome sign!

Two 24″8 from Knedla in the men’s 50 back and interesting 2.10.40 from 16 year-old Ellie Clark in the women’s 200 fly.

2:10 is fast for everyone let alone a 16 year old. 6th fastest American!

I feel like a 2:10 was fast in the 1990s, not so much today. She’s only 16, which means we could see more to come though.

For this time a year I think that’s pretty good especially for a teenager. I’m sure she will drop time this year

Women’s 100 free, we’re going to have a bunch at 52 or better by the end of this year. It’s very possible that a 52 won’t be top 6 in the USA.

Huske
Douglass
Walsh
Erisman
Clark
Moesch

Maybe Manuel gets back there too

That’s optimistic but possible. I don’t think anyone will go sub 52

Probably not, but Torri Huske’s best LCM time was 52.4 last year. Her SCY time was 46.0.

This year at NCAAs she went 45.1, so it’s not a stretch to think she could go a 51 based upon her SCY improvement this past year.

By 2027 at least one US swimmer will break 52 and by 2028 we may see 2 or 3 if we’re lucky

probably not but I’d say it’s almost 50-50.. woudln’t be shocked by Huske, Douglass or Walsh getting there. Or Moesch or Erisman in the next year and a half.

Manuel will get to sub 53. Her 200 was good two weeks ago.

Manuel was 52 last year so I think she’s totally capable of getting there again. But yes the 100 free depth is insane, it’s only may and the top 6 for this season are all sub 54
