US World Trials GoPro Video Walk Through, Featuring Rowdy Gaines Masters Swim Practice

In between prelims and finals, you might think the competition pool sleeps…and it does for awhile…until NBC TV analyst Rowdy Gaines runs a masters swimming workout.

You can always count on Rowdy for great sets that push you, but don’t exhaust you for the evening’s work ahead. USA Swimming Assistant Executive Director Mike Unger always attends, working out the stress, using the time to clear his head. For those in-the-know, Mike Unger wears many hats at USA Swimming (as the operations man). Perhaps the most fun is the support he offers the production team at major competitions. Unger is the analyst behind-the-scenes, the man with the detailed history and stats…which he keeps in his head. When you call races for TV, the producer’s in one ear and Unger is in the other giving you background info. (For SwimSwamers, he’s the Braden Keith of swimming information.)

In the video, please note swimswam contributor Tony Carroll attended the Gaines swim practice. (Video slows a second on the last close up of a swimmer. That’s Tony.) Tony’s been creating the photo vaults this week from Tim Binning’s captures. Tony’s also been tweeting for us (and he tweeted 2013 Men’s NCAAs). You can thank him for maxing @SwimSwamNEWS out on Twitter, tweeting 1,000 times on Thursday. That’s a swimswam record. Congrats Tony!

I hope you appreciate the walk through. The FanZone is rocking during prelims and finals sessions. If you’re in Indy, come to the meet and say hello. We’ll be the guys in the swimswam T-shirts.

Many thanks to our event sponsor Nike Swim for helping swimswam cover this competition and for providing all of the prizes for the pick’me contest.
