UNI Women Win Every Event In Rout Of Coe College

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – It was a clean sweep for the UNI swim and dive team as they hosted Division III Coe College on Friday. The Panthers took first place in every event and beat the Kohawks 211 to 67.

The Panthers had nine individuals take first place. Lauren VilimsHelena HeubergerSydney SchmidtKatie Taylor lead the way with two first place finishes each. 

Lauren Vilims won the 200 free (2:01.95), and the 500 free (5:20.46). Helena Heuberger won the 50 back (26.87), and the 100 free (54.35). Sydney Schmidt won the 100 fly (58.22), and the 50 fly (26.41). Katie Taylor won the 50 free (24.08), and the 100 breast (1:06.06).

Other first place finishers were Sarah Walpole (400 IM, 4:49.35), Mia Savicevic (50 breast, 32.45), Jayden Lovell (1m dive, 258.60), Piper Carroll (100 back, 1:01.27), and Taylor Hogan (3m dive, 249.95).

Both relay wins went to the Panthers as well. The 200 medley relay of Katie TaylorMia SavicevicMoriah Ross, and Piper Carroll won with a time of 1:48.15. Moriah Ross, Jordan McCullogh, Olivia Clark, and Casey Summers won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:40.68.

Next up on the schedule for the Panthers is a trip to Illinois in January. They will be at Western Illinois on the 17th and then face MVC foe Illinois State on the 18th.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Women’s Swimming and Diving team traveled up to Cedar Falls on Friday to compete in a dual-meet against Division I Northern Iowa. The Panthers won the meet, 211-67.

The Kohawks did see improvement throughout the night, many earned second place finishes in individual events. The women’s 4×200 freestyle relay team, consisting of junior Tracy Martinek, sophomore Darby Manternach, and freshmen Lauren Pio and Natalie Thede, had a well-versed second place finish with a finals time of 1:46.32. Senior Katie Freeland earned herself a second place finish in the 50 yard butterfly, finishing in 28.01. Senior diver, Erin Horton, secured 146.30 points on the three meter dive, giving the Kohawks another second place finish. Cedar Falls native, Sammi Hall, earned a personal season-best in the 100 yard backstroke, completing a 1:04.26 finals time and securing second place out of six.

Up Next: After a few weeks off over the holidays, the Kohawks are back in action January 17 and 18, where they will compete in the Grinnell Invite, hosted by Grinnell College.
