SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — UC Santa Barbara secured a decisive victory over UC Davis at the dual meet, clinching first place in several events. Samantha Banos led the charge for the Gauchos, earning top finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle and butterfly events.

UC Santa Barbara dominated the dual meet against UC Davis, securing a decisive 160-102 victory. The team displayed strong performances in relay events, with the women’s 200-yard medley relay team, featuring Hazel Derr and Ashley Ray, clocking a winning time of 1:36.09. Banos stood out with wins in both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly, posting times of 1:44.74 and 1:55.82, respectively. The depth in individual events was evident as Annie Andres led the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:56.60, followed closely by freshman Lelia Symington at 10:04.17.

In the breaststroke events, UC Santa Barbara showcased their strength as Ray claimed the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.24, and Mai Kawahata won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.23. Junior Eugenie Lanilis also contributed significantly, capturing the 100-yard freestyle in 51.65, providing critical points for the team. Caitlin Brown’s performance in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing first with a time of 56.28, further bolstered Santa Barbara’s lead. The victory was underscored by consistent top-three finishes across various events, highlighting the team’s comprehensive strength and competitive edge.
