RETURNING TO THE POOL

This weekend will mark the first competition for both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams since the MPSF Championships in March of 2020. The Tritons make their return to the pool—their first as a Division I program—after opting out of the 2020-21 season.

FRESH FACES

UC San Diego will welcome 14 newcomers to its roster for the 2021-22 season, including five women and nine men. Eight scholar-athletes join the Tritons from California, while Arizona, Hawaii and Washington are also represented. The roster also boasts two international additions, traveling from Germany and Serbia.

RETURNING TALENT

UC San Diego returns 31 letterwinners for the 2021-22 season and 10 sophomores who have yet to compete for the Tritons. Among the top returners, Juli Arzave, Spencer Daily and Ivan Kurakin all competed in the recent Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb. in June of 2021.

IT’S A LANCE FREIMAN TAKEOVER

Junior Lance Freiman will be taking over the @ucsdswimdive Instagram account on Friday, Oct. 15. Follow along as Lance and his teammates share a behind the scenes look at meet day in Los Angeles.

LOOKING AHEAD
Up next, UC San Diego will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Oct. 23 at 3:30 p.m. (PT) to begin a stretch of three home meets at Canyonview Aquatic Center.

MPSF CONFERENCE

The Tritons enter year three of competing in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) conference and their first as a Division I program. The conference features all Division I schools including BYU, Cal Poly SLO, Hawaii, Pacific, San Diego (women), UC Davis (women), UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara.

Competing as the only Division II school in the conference in 2019-20, the men finished fourth and the women finished fifth.

UC SAN DIEGO AND COVID-19

The program has three adaptive pillars that are central to our strategy to resume on-campus activity: risk mitigation, viral detection, and intervention.
