Tulane Picks Up Colorado 4A Champ Kate McDonald of Jeffco Hurricanes

Kate McDonald of the Jeffco Hurricanes has committed to Tulane‘s class of 2021.

A versatile talent, McDonald excels at an interesting combination of events– she’s very strong in the distance freestyle events, while also boasting impressive times in the 200 breast and IM’s. Her best event, however, is the 400 IM.

TOP TIMES (SCY)

  • 200 free – 1:53.29
  • 500 free – 4:56.17
  • 1650 free – 17:05.10
  • 200 breast – 2:19.83
  • 200 IM – 2:06.14
  • 400 IM – 4:23.58

McDonald is a senior at Evergreen High School in Evergreen, CO, just outside of Denver. Last year at the Colorado 4A Championships, McDonald won the 500 free and touched 4th in the 200 free. She also swam on Evergreen’s 200 medley and 400 free relays, each of which finished 3rd in state.

As a freshman, McDonald is fast enough to have an immediate impact at the conference level. This past season, she would have finished in 400 IM and 500 free A finals, top-8 in the mile, and 200 IM and 200 breast B finals at the AAC Championships.

Current Tulane freshman Olivia Johnson has a nearly identical skill set in terms of her best events, and the two will make for dynamic training partners when McDonald gets to campus next fall.
