ST. GEORGE, Utah – Wrapping up the Trailblazer Invitational, the Triton women won the three-day event with a score of 748 and the men took second with a score of 838.5.

On the third and final day of the invite, the women added 196 points to solidify their win. The men added 272 points to finish in second behind MPSF competitor, UC Santa Barbara.

HOW IT HAPPENED
ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE
Juli Arzave opened finals with a victory in the 1650 yard freestyle, posting a 16:44.64 time to finish 12.66 seconds ahead of second place. In the 100 yard freestyle, Miranda Renner finished fourth posting a 50.74 time to add 15 points to the Tritons’ total. The Tritons went one-two in the 200 yard breaststroke with Katja Pavicevic setting a team record with a time of 2:11.15 to take first and Chloe Braun finished second with a time of 2:16.05. The two added a combined 37 points. In the 200 yard butterfly, Lexi DePaco finished fifth with a time of 2:01.95. The 400 yard freestyle relay squad made up of Jordan Phillips, Renner, Aneta Wyzga, and Tina Rueter took first with a time of 3:21.44 earning 40 points for the team.

ON THE MEN’S SIDE
In the 200 yard backstroke, the Tritons took third through sixth with Nathan Lee, Luigi Franco, Robby Griswold, and Shane Burns, all four finishing within two seconds of each other. Andrija Petkovic and Ivan Kurakin finished fifth and sixth in the 100 yard freestyle to add 27 points to the Tritons’ total score. Colton Milne finished fourth in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:00.27. Finishing second in the 400 yard freestyle relay, Kurakin, Petkovic, Aidan Rikic, and Justin Morsch posted a time of 2:57.18.

QUOTABLE
Despite navigating injuries and some sickness, head coach Marko Djordjevic commented, “this was a great check-in point for the season and it was a great opportunity to learn what we need to do before the rest of the season.”

UP NEXT
UC San Diego women’s and men’s swim and dive squads will travel to Greensboro, N.C. for the Toyota US Open that will take place Nov. 30 thru Dec. 3.
