Towson Women Earn Hard Fought Win Over JMU

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women’s swimming and diving team hosted James Madison for a dual meet on Thursday. A close contest throughout saw Towson break a tie on the final event to earn a victory over the Dukes.

Final Score:
Towson – 153.5
JMU – 144.5

How it Happened:

  • Addie Scott won the 200 free with a time of 1:51.16 and Emmy Erikson placed second at 1:53.82 followed by Summer Bontrager in third.
  • Scott and Erikson combined for the top two spots in the 100 free as well with Scott swimming the winning time of 52.05 followed by Erikson at 52.82.
  • Dylan Gustaff (2:05.44) and Madison Neal (2:06.65) took the top two spots in the 200 back.
  • Riley Willett touched the wall first the 100 fly with a time of 57.02 followed by Julianna Wahl in second with a time of 58.29.
  • Shannon Parrau scored 315.38 to place second in the 3 meter dive.
  • Gustaff earned her second win of the meet taking the top spot in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.49.
  • The team of Bjartey Gudmundsdottir, Scott, Ryland Zuniga, and Willett clinched the meet with a win in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:35.60.

Up Next:
The Tigers are right back in action tomorrow when Towson welcomes George Mason for a dual meet. Diving begins at 10 a.m. followed by swimming at noon.

TOWSON, Md. – James Madison swim & dive narrowly fell to Towson in a dual meet, 153.5-144.5, on Thursday inside of Burdick Hall.

The Dukes moved to 2-2 in dual meets this season, as they swept both boards in the diving portion of the event, before earning a relay win and seven individual wins in swimming.

“Having a competition this time of year is rare for us, so we didn’t know what to expect. We learned a lot and really enjoyed competing today. We are all looking forward to a few more practices and then enjoying time with our families over the holidays before our training trip in Florida.”

Diving

  • To begin the day, redshirt junior Natalie Jones and senior Maddie O’Mera went 1-2 on the 1-meter board, both scoring respected NCAA Zone qualifying scores of 302.18 and 289.13.
  • O’Mera then scored a career-best score of 317.63 on the 3-meter board secure the sweep of the boards for JMU. Jones finished third with a score of 302.78.

Individual Swimming

  • Sophomore Madison Wimmer began the individual portion of swimming by winning the 1000 Free by nearly eight seconds, recording a time of 10:30.80. She also earned a win in the 500 Free with a time of 5:05.41.
  • A pair of freshmen went top-three in the 100 Back, as Emma Durham (58.63) took home the win and Maria Costa (59.03) finished third.
  • Winning the first of two events, Emma Dougherty swam a time of 1:05.32 in the 100 Breast. She returned five events later in the 200 Breast to win the event by seven-hundredths of a second with a time of 2:24.65.
  • Sophomore Maddy Coombs and senior Jamie Cornwell respectively won the next two events following the 100 Breast to wrap up JMU’s individual victories. Coombs swam a time of 2:05.80 in the 200 Fly, winning by almost five seconds, before Cornwell won the 50 Free with a time of 24.20.

Relay Swimming

  • JMU won the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of senior Sarah Pauley, Dougherty, senior Ann Chappell Ellington and Cornwell swam a time of 1:45.32.
  • The Dukes took second in the 200 Free Relay, swimming a time of 1:35.84 by the team of Wimmer, junior Maddie Lehman, Cornwell and Dougherty. They were edged out by Towson by .24 seconds.

JMU has the rest of 2025 off before returning to action with three dual meets in January, beginning at Villanova on Jan. 17.
