The Ahmeds’ Post 500 Free Interview: “I think sub-4:00 is possible”

2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

The Tunisian Tandem from Gainesville put on a show for NCAA fans tonight. Ahmed Hafnaoui and Ahmed Jaouadi touched 1-2 in the 500 free, making a distance sweep for Florida at this meet and netting Hafnaoui his first NCAA title. After the race, they both expressed their delight with how they’ve executed this week and getting to train with one another again after many years apart.

We all know Jaouadi gave him that

I mean even if true, it would be so impressive for both of them to dominate to the point of choosing who of them would win in their first ever NCAA participation.
But I don’t think that’s what happened.

Can someone pls explain why the US distance freestylers would rather go to IU than to UF?

not everyone has to go to the same program to swim fast babe. last year uf only scored 9 points in the mile. and hafnaoui broke out in fukuoka while training at indiana which funny enough is how they got all those recruits lol

I’ve always wished we could know what ‘08 Phelps would have gone in the 400 free and 500 scy.

Between his 100/200 free speed, 400 IM world record, and that fact that his underwaters were some of the best in the world (although the world has gotten better at underwaters since then) it would have been cool to know if he could have done 3:39/3:59

MOC would own the 150m WR

Nah I don’t rekon quite the 3:39, but would obliterate 4 I rekon

I mean you’ve gotta think 3:40 is sub4 or at least close to it. Mijatovic is very far from 3:40 right now, and we know Hafnouai has been there (albeit with crappy turns)

Nah I don’t rekon you can make those linear attributions. The turns make those 2 races an entirely different event.

Leon just might be the best to potentially ever do it, simultaneously he could miss out making it back for the final for a championship 400. Or not, maybe one of 3:39 or 3:40 boys would smash a sub 4 easy. I say it’s an entirely different race and you can’t compare.

UF is having an incredible meet.

A bit off topic, but seeing how they’re performing right now, I predict Katie is gonna have a very special summer ahead of her.
