Team USA Preparing for Barcelona Departure

With the official swimming competition at the 2013 FINA World Championships beginning on Sunday, Team USA is preparing to depart from their Vitoria training camp for Barcelona on Wednesday.

The map above shows the route that the Americans would take if they were to be traveling by car or train, however they will be taking a private charter to take the short 400 mile hop across the country. A represents Vitoria, just outside of Bilbao, and B lands them in Barcelona.

The Americans will then settle in to the athlete’s village and prep for their first swims on Sunday, where almost half of the team will be in action very early.

I’m surprised they didn’t have their holding camp at Narbonne like they did with the 1992 Olympics. It would have only been a 3 hour drive to Barcelona.

There’s an athlete’s village? The Canadian open water swimmers have been staying at a hotel.

Who is the tall blond guy on the picture who is taller than Matt Grevers?

I think it is Matt McLean.

It’s Mclean, but I don’t think he’s taller than Grevers. He’s listed as 6’6. Maybe the photo is a little misrepresented.

The back row (McLean, Lochte, Clary) is standing on the ledge.

Mc Lean must be one of the tallest on the team with Adrian and Grevers .

Private charter… how the other half lives. The Danish team can’t even get a big enough car to fit everyone in 🙂

And I think I saw several personal chefs too on one of the photos. US team is the most well-supported. by far.

I think they need the chefs, after the fiasco a the 1986 world championships in Madrid when most of the US team got sick.

They should do the trip to Barcelona by bicycle! It would be a good warm-up. They still have enough time before Sunday.

Clearly you don’t know what a joke is…

Ooh, ooh, I’ve got an even better idea, Bobo! Over the course of the 400 mile trip, that gives them enough room to each run two full Ironman triathlons!! One today, one on Thursday, and they still have Friday and Saturday to relax! I see nothing that could go wrong with that!

I would suggest an easy 400 mile jog. You know…nothing big. Just a relaxing pace singing songs and carrying 50 pound back packs. Lots of fun! ;o)

Since both are on the coast, why not swim around the Iberian Peninsula? They can stop off and see Portugal on the way.
