Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Butterfly specialist Yochanan Meza has committed to Texas Christian University to continue his swimming career in 2025. Meza trains with Texas Ford Aquatics in Frisco, Texas, and attended the Academy of Home Education.
“I am excited to officially announce my commitment to Texas Christian University. I am so thankful to God for this amazing opportunity. I pray that I can honor Him with my actions, my studies, and my swimming career. I want to give a big thank you to all the coaches at Texas Ford Aquatics that have inspired me and guided me. You all pushed me beyond what I even thought was possible. To my family, thank you for your love, support, and for always believing in me. To all my teammates, you pushed me both in and out of the water to be the swimmer and person that I am today. Thank you to TCU coaches, Coach James Winchester and Coach Greyson Heckman, for this amazing opportunity. Ready to give my all and represent this team with pride. Go Frogs! 🐸#LoveGodLoveOthers”
Meza competed at the 2025 USA Swimming National Championships (LCM) back in June, where he would go 2:01.72 to finish 30th in the 200 fly. Mez earned a second swim at USA Nationals, after going 2:01.70 in the prelims. He also set a new best of 2:00.85 to qualify for the meet last summer.
Meza also had a productive showing at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships West (SCY) back in December, where he would set new personal bests in the 100 fly (49.66), 200 fly (1:47.24), 200 IM (1:51.25), and 400 IM (3:57.96).
Top Times SCY:
- 100 Fly- 49.66
- 200 Fly- 1:47.24
- 200 IM- 1:51.25
- 400 IM- 3:57.96
- 500 Free- 4:36.48
- 200 Free- 1:43.35
TCU, located in Fort Worth, Texas, finished 4th out of 7 teams on the men’s side at the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships, dropping two spots from their 2024 finish, where the Horned Frogs would be runners-up in a field of five teams. Meza’s 200 fly best would have placed him in the ‘B’ final at the 2025 Big 12 Championship meet.
His time in the 200 fly would have ranked him as the 5th fastest TCU performer in the last season, the 100 fly time would have been good enough for the 6th fastest, and the 200 IM would have made him the 9th fastest last season for the Horned Frogs.
Mezca will be joining the Horned Frogs along with fellow 2025 commits Isaac Carr, Deacon Gutshall, Quint Erwin, Shea Skarda, and Braedon Ando. This class features multiple sub-1:50 200 butterflyers with Meza, Erwin, Carr, and Ando all achieving that benchmark.

If they only had a decent pool to train in. How a wealthy D1 school like TCU only has a 25 yard 6 lane 5 foot deep pool is beyond me. Not to mention a dive tank that only has a 5M platform. If they would ever build a decent facility, they’d be a much better team. I am a fan of TCU and TCU swimming, only wish the administration and athletic departments were.
Should’ve gone to SMU
Would have got better coaching for sure.
Wasn’t SMU on probation because of coach Ozzie?
He’s not the men’s coach. Only the women and it was only Ozzie that had to serve a small suspension not anything with the team
Yeah Ozzie has struggled he should know the rules plus he hasn’t recovered since he cut most of his roster the first year. No excuse but maybe he is still adapting since this is his first head coaching job.
Would have got better coaching at SMU.
Great coaching job Ozzie. You finished 14 out of 15 teams at the ACC championships.
Fear the Frogs!
Congrats Yochanan
Go Frogs!
