High School Austin Katz was one of the top high school swimmers in the country at his time. He swam for the Sarasota YMCA Sharks, and was a multi-time YMCA National champion. From April 2015 to April 2016 he dropped his 100 back from 48.28 to 47.23 and his 200 from 1:43.70 to 1:41.48. As a No.6 recruit in the Class of 2017, Katz committed to swim for the Texas Longhorns. College (Texas) 2017-2018 As a freshman in college, Katz was a part of four winning relays at the Big 12 Championships. He won both of the backstroke events and broke the Championship Record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:39.10. At the NCAA Championships, Katz scored 35 points and helped Texas win its fourth consecutive team title. He placed fourth in the 100 backstroke breaking the 45 second mark by 0.01 seconds. On the last day of the meet, Katz won his first NCAA Championship title in the 200 backstroke in front of his team mate John Shebat. Katz entered the final with the fourth fastest time but he managed to drop 1.31 seconds and take the title in 1:37.53. 2018-2019 Katz started the 2019 NCAA Championships by helping Texas to a national title …
