SwimSwam’s NCAA Insider: ISU’s Matt Leach Talks Recruiting Philosophy

Over the last ten months Indiana State University has been building a new swimming & diving program from the ground up, and the Sycamores have partnered with SwimSwam to give you a front row seat to the process.

In the lastest video from our ongoing series about the project, ISU head coach Matt Leach talks about his recruiting philosophy. Leach was hired in June of 2015, just as the recruiting season was about to get underway for the high school class of 2016.

Leach and his team reached out to swimmers from all across the country, and as far away as Europe, in building the inaugural team. “I’ve heard yes and no …. I just think you’ve got to find the right person who wants to start a team from scratch,” says Leach.

Indiana State announced its inaugural class in two rounds: their fall recruits, including Emily Boomershine, Cierra Campbell, Allie Engstrom, Mykenzie Kostka, Jacquie Price, Emily Ratliff, Cori Taylor, Zoe Williams, and Danielle Yagelski; and more recently, their spring recruits, including Taylor Christie, Kendall Hansen, Alex Malmborg, Katherine Minatra, Tessa Muzzy, Blanca Saez-Illobre, Laney Recer, and Courtney Skelley.

This video serves as the seventh installment of a series giving an inside glimpse into the building of a new program, a partnership between the Indiana State Sycamores and SwimSwam. You can watch the other videos here:
