SwimSwam Pulse: 59% Predict Stanford’s NCAA Title

SwimSwam Pulse is a recurring feature tracking and analyzing the results of our periodic A3 Performance Polls. You can cast your vote in our newest poll on the SwimSwam homepage, about halfway down the page on the right side, or you can find the poll embedded at the bottom of this post.

Our most recent poll asked SwimSwam readers to predict the winner of the women’s NCAA Championships:

RESULTS

Question:

  • Stanford – 59.0%
  • California – 35.1%
  • Georgia – 1.5%
  • Texas – 2.1%
  • NC State – 1.5%
  • Other – 0.9%

59.0% of voters correctly predicted Stanford’s win at the 2017 women’s NCAA Championships – a number perhaps on the low side, considering Stanford’s yearlong dominance. The Cardinal won by a whopping 160.5 points after coming into the meet with a 151-point lead based on psych sheets.

Cal did prove the top competitors, and earned 35.1% of the votes in our poll – a difference of almost 300 total votes. Georgia topped Texas for 4th by just half a point, but the Longhorns showed up bigger in our poll by about half a percent.

These team-based polls tend to be especially spread out – the faithful from each major university tend to prove passionate enough to vote for their favorite team even despite major odds, as every non-Stanford team faced this year.

It was not very difficult to predict Stanford’s win.
And at least the team with the most points has won the title. Unlike the US presidential elections….

The polling was still open after they had already won haha. May want to close the mens one a little earlier this time. I think the real prediction was around 53%.

Excellent point Cartman! Yeah, predictions aren’t nearly as interesting when the results are already in. Therefore, in advance, I’ll predict NC State on the men’s side. But only because I live in NC, not because of any psychic power. My daughter went to NCSU; we have local swimmers on the NCSU team; I know Held and other team members. So my “prediction” is really just a “wish”. Yes, I’ve already seen the psych sheet scored out, and this is unrelated. And I ‘wish’ for more than a Wolfpack victory. I wish for Dressel (or Held) to post a 17.99. I wish for Ryan Murphy to wrap up his backstroke glory. I wish for Conger and Schooling to fly stroke for… Read more »
