GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo women’s swimming and diving team defeated NCAA Division I opponent Canisius on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Pool, 170.5-127.5.

Senior Lauren Sposili highlighted the win for the Knights by setting a pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.14. Geneseo opened up the meet with the team of Maya Marcyan, Sposili, Alexis Falvo, and Amaya DiGiovanni earning a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.19. The Knights then dominated the 1000-yard freestyle, with Hannah BrockmanAbby Funk, and Kimberly MacDonald taking the top-three spots, respectively.

First-Year Rian Dickman kept the winning ways going in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.18. Falvo tied for first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.12, while Dickman and DiGiovanni earned the top two spots in the 100-yard freestyle. Funk and Brockman earned first and second-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:20.19 and 5:20.50, respectively. Falvo then tacked on another top finish in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:00.04. The Knights capped off the swimming events with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:40.13.

Jenna MacLeod finished second in the one-meter dive at 213.23, and then scored 223.58 in the three-meter dive for another second-place finish.

Geneseo is now 3-0 on the season and will host Grove City and Fredonia next Saturday at 1 p.m. FULL RESULTS (PDF)

GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo men’s swimming and diving team was able to knock off NCAA Division I foe Canisius on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Pool, 157-143.

The Knights set two pool records during the meet, with the 200-yard freestyle relay team finishing in 1:24.07 and junior diver Trent Makowiec scoring 355.05 on six dives in the three-meter dive event. Jake NielsenJordan NielsenMark Crocker, and Sam Matthews teamed up to set the pool record in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Geneseo kicked off the meet by tallying 15 points in the 200-yard medley relay by earning first and second-place finishes. Ben LudlowJack Cimorelli, Crocker, and Jake Nielsen touched the wall in 1:33.97 to take 11 points and first place. Matthews went on to place first in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:44.54, while Cimorelli earned a dramatic first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke as he beat Canisius by .02 seconds with a time of 59.39. Jake Nielsen and Matthews touched first and second in the 50-yard freestyle with times of 21.37 and 21.63, respectively. Nielsen then went on to win the 100-yard freestyle in the next event with a time of 47.71.

Makowiec dominated the diving events, taking first place in the one-meter dive as well. Makowiec scored 307.73 in the one-meter, while Jacob Calus finished second with a 282.00. Calus also placed second in the three-meter dive with a 313.05.

Geneseo is now 3-0 on the season and will host Grove City and Fredonia next Saturday at 1 p.m. FULL RESULTS (PDF)

Freshman Lana Janson and sophomore Archie Minto combined for five first-place finishes on Saturday, but it was not enough as Canisius fell to Geneseo Saturday afternoon in collegiate swimming and diving action.

The Knights defeated the Golden Griffins on both sides, picking up a 157-143 win for the men and a 170.5-127.5 victory for the women’s squad.


Graduate student 
Adriana Bolender earned the best score in both diving events, picking up the top spot in the 1-meter (222.60) and 3-meter (224.10) dives.

Janson was the first to touch the wall in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.25) and 200 IM (2:00.34).


Junior 
Jordan O’Connor also earned a pair of victories, picking up wins in the 100 and 200 back events, with times of 59.94 and 2:12.18, respectively.

Minto led the men’s team, touching the wall first in the 100 fly (50.89), 200 fly (1:52.52) and 200 IM (1:56.60) events.


First year 
Joe Cooper earned two victories in the 500 free and 1000 free with times of 4:50.53 and 10:10.44, respectively.

• Canisius will return to the pool for the Magnus Invite Nov. 17-19 in Cleveland, Ohio. This will be the first of two meetings against Cleveland State this season.
