For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Madison Schmitz from Rolesville, North Carolina has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Miami-Florida beginning in fall 2027.

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Miami!! Thank you to my parents, family, friends, teammates, current coaches, Coach Mike, Coach Betts, and Coach Silver, as well as past coaches, Coach Victoria and Coach Kevin, for their unwavering support and encouragement. I feel truly honored by this opportunity provided by Coach Andy, Coach Zach, Coach Liberty, and the rest of the wonderful Miami staff. I also thank God for opening a door that my younger self could only dream of. I can’t wait to join the Canes family and all of the amazing girls who have been so welcoming! GOOOOOO CANES!!!”

Schmitz swims for Marlins of Raleigh and finished her long course season at Summer Juniors. There she posted a lifetime best 30.76 in the 50 back to lead off the team’s girls 200 medley relay. She finished 45th in the 200 back in a 2:19.98, about a second and a half off her lifetime best 2:18.29 that she swam for 2nd at the North Carolina Senior Champs during the middle of July.

Back in 2023, Schmitz finaled at Winter Juniors, swimming a lifetime best 4:50.76 for 22nd in the 500 free. Her highest finish was 15th in the 1650 free as she swam a 16:49.77.

Schmitz’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 200 free: 1:50.02
  • 500 free: 4:50.76
  • 1650 free: 16:49.77

The Miami-Florida women finished 10th out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships and went on to finish XX at the 2025 NCAA Championships. Giulia Oliveira Carvalho led the team in the pool at ACCs and was highlighted by a 6th place finish in the 100 fly with a 50.91.

Schmitz would have been one of the top mid-distance/distance freestylers on the roster this past season as she would have been 5th in the 200 free, and 3rd in both the 500 and 1650 freestyles.

Schmitz will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2031 along with Heidi Stoute, Reagan Uhlik, and Tessa Broedell.
