Suffield Academy 3-Sport Athlete Cam Auchinachie Signs NLI with Denver

Senior Cameron Auchinachie, of Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut, signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at the University of Denver beginning in the 2017-18 season. Auchinachie has attended Suffield since his sophomore year, having gone to public high school in Binghamton, New York for ninth grade. Auchinachie’s swimming trajectory has been an impressive one, especially given that he also participated at the varsity level in water polo and lacrosse while at Suffield. He also competes for Crimson Aquatics.

According to Auchinachie, he chose the university because, “Denver is perfectly challenging for me as a student-athlete, both academically and athletically. I believe that Coach Scrhader, his coaching staff, and the team, will help me find my full potential in the pool. But also, Denver’s opportunities for business students are expansive, and being located in one of the most prosperous cities in the country, will offer me many business opportunities.”

Denver’s Head Coach, Brian Schrader commented on Auchinachie’s commitment to Denver, by saying, “We are excited to have Cam come out west to be a part of our program here at Denver. He was a great fit for our squad, and we had some great reports from his coaches, Kyle Shack and Andy Lowe, that this was a student athlete that was only going to continue to improve. We view his versatility in freestyle and backstroke as a huge bonus. I like his competitive edge and knowing that he just likes to compete, whether it is water polo or swimming, and that he likes to work to get it done. He is an easy person to communicate with and I know he will be fun to coach. It will be fun for all involved to see him swimming at a national level here at Denver. He has been outstanding at Suffield with All American honors and we hope that continues here at Denver.”

Auchinachie’s SCY time progression is as follows:

  2014 2015 2016
50 free 23.7 22.53 21.20
