St. Bonaventure Edges LaSalle at the Spire Institute

The St. Bonaventure men’s swimming & diving team defeated LaSalle 207-125 at the Spire Institute on Saturday.The Bonnies started the meet strong with first and second place finishes in the 400-yard medley relay.  Vastslav Lets, Matthew SchuttRipley Danner and Jimmy Martin came in with a time of 3:29.21 to clinch a gold medal.  The sliver was given to Matt Rochna, Michael Burud, Michael White and David Paccapaniccia with a time of 3:32.75.Lets led St. Bonaventure with two first place and one second place wins. Coming in with a time of 52.45 in the 100-yard backstroke and 1:52.95 in the 200-yard backstroke which where both good for first place finishes.  In the 500-yard freestyle Lets came in second with a time of 4:38.15. Followed by his teammate Mike Hartwell who came in third with a time of 4:52.56.Martin finished strong for St. Bonaventure with a first place win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.25) and a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.18).Matt Goettler won the silver in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.52, shortly followed by Schutt who had a time of 2:12.45.  Schutt also had a third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.98.

SBU had a solid finish in the 200-yard butterfly, with Rochna coming in first with a time of 1:55.14.  White trailed his teammate with a time of 1:57.40 to clinch a second place finish.

In diving action Alex Marra came up strong for the Bonnies.  He placed first in the 3-meter with a score of 232.88 and second in the 1-meter with a score of 208.43.  Keanue Carterended the day with a pair of third place finishes in the 1-meter (175.88) and the 3-meter (182.48)

White, Danner and Michael Pilyugin all had first place finishes on the day.  White in the 200-yard IM (1:55.89), Danner came in strong in the 100-yard butterfly (51.53) and Paccapaniccia in the 50-yard freestyle (21.57).

Roncha ended the day with a third place finish in the 100-yrad butterfly with a time of 52.53.

The 200-yard freestyle relay (1:23.85) and the 200-yard medley (1:37.51) both ended in first place points for The Bonnies.

St. Bonaventure will be in the pool again on Friday, Nov. 8th at Cleveland State.

St. Bonaventure Women

The women’s swimming and diving team was led today by freshman Tanja Kirmse and Sophomore Elizabeth Malone with five top finishes between the two, but the Bonnies fell to A-10 opponents La Salle and Duquesne at the Spire Institute.

 Kirmse grabbed her first top finish by placing first in the 200 yard freestyle, touching in with a time of 1:53.72, narrowly beating Duquesne’s Meghan Smith. Later in the day, Kirmse would finish first again, this time in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 52.86. She would finish the day with another first place finish, this time in the 500 yard freestyle, registering a time of 5:02.12. Malone started the day with a third place finish in the 200 yard butterfly, touching in with a time of 2:07.36, followed by teammate Lauren Caldwell who came in at2:11.12. Later in the day, Malone had another third place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.39, just edging out La Salle’s Julia Mann.
St. Bonaventure saw much success from their relay teams today, registering four top finishes in relay events. Their first top finish came early in the day in the 400 yard medley relay with teammates Adelyn Graf, Lauren Caldwell, Courtney Mackenzie, and Tanja Kirmse touching in with a time of 4:00.91, enough for a first place finish.

Later in the meet, St. Bonaventure would finish second in the 200 yard freestyle relay with the team of Jeanette DietrichTaylor Anderson, Jordan Bridget, and Rachel Bullregistering a time of 1:40.18, just behind A-10 opponent La Salle. Dietrich and Bridget would also lead the Bonnies to a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay, along with teammates Mackenzie Courtney and Meghan McCann, with a time of 1:51.34. The Brown and White would finish the day with a second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle with a time of 3:36.99. The Bonnies were led by Tanja Kirmse, Jeanette Dietrich, Rachel Bull and Taylor Anderson.

The Bonnies also received top finishes from Jeanette Dietrich in the 50 yard freestyle and Lauren Caldwell in the 200 yard Individual Medley. The Final scores were: Duquesne 181, La Salle 179.5, and SBU 154
