Sprint News 9/10/12: Missy a Winner for Broncos; Bowman’s New Gig

…Over the last year-plus, Missy Franklin has developed a very special relationship with the Denver Broncos. The team has almost taken her under their wings; last season, she was caught Tebow’ing on the field at Mile High; she got an Olympic sendoff from Broncos receiver Eric Decker earlier this year, and last night in prime time she was a Broncos honorary captain and got to perform the toin-coss before the game. Speaking to the impact that Franklin has left on the city of Denver, new Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning made a point of stopping to shake Missy’s hand after the toss and talk to her for a moment, before becoming just the third quarterback in history to throw 400 touchdown passes. He wasn’t even around for most of the Olympic-buildup, and still was almost starstruck by Franklin. By the way, her hometown team won the toss and chose to receive; they went on to win 31-19…

…In a great chat posted this morning with Mike Gustafson, former Olympian Adam Mania talks about his training routine, what’s next for him, and how he made the Olympic Trials semi-finals swimming only 12,000 meters a week. The newsworthy tidbits are that he’s stepped down from his full-time role at the Schroeder YMCA, where he had become the face of the program, to work on his business degree. He’s also doing a little bit of coaching with Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a program that is riding high after their men pulled a massive early-season upset over Mania’s alma-mater Wisconsin…

Bob Bowman is not leaving NBAC now that Michael Phelps is retiring, but he has added a side gig working with TSE Consulting in its sports performance division. The company, headed by former USOC sports performance director Steve Roush is currently working with the Brazilian Olympic Committee ahead of their hosting of the 2016 Olympics…

At the ASCA World Clinic, Gregg Troy announced that Bob was taking a year off from coaching…must be doing that to possibly see how the Consulting goes????
