Sprint News 7/18/12: Criste Headed to Miami; Canadian Nationals Thursday

…Former Stanford Cardinal, and Trojan Swim Club post-grad, began his next training stop today in Miami, as he took in his first practice with the Hurricanes. Criste was on a roll at the Olympic Trials in the 100 breast in the first round, where he was the top seed in 1:00.29, but stumbled a little bit in the evening to miss the final. Still, that swim was enough to encourage him to at least attempt to train while attending the University of Miami law school…

…Two big meets will be running in Canada this weekend, the first of which will be Canada’s summer National Championships. Though the Olympic Team is already overseas, this will feature the best from Canada who didn’t make the trip to London, including swimmers like Kier Maitland, Luke Peddie, Kierra Smith and Page Kremer. Among other things, this meet will be the qualifier for the Junior Pan Pacs squad. The meet home page is here, including live video results

…Canada will also host their twice-a-year Can/Am meet, where the best in IPC swimming from the United States and Canada line-up toe-to-toe with the best from the United States against the best from Canada. The US hasn’t confirmed their roster for the event yet, but Canada will bring, among others, World Record swimmers Summer Mortimer and Benoit Huot. If the Americans bring a full squad, including stars like Victoria Arlen, Justin Zook, and ESPY winner Jessica Long, this could wind up as a huge showdown. Full details for that meet are here.
