Sprint News 6/14/12: Maryland Assistant Departs; Caitlin Meets the Queen

Roger Wiliams University has announced the hiring of Maryland assistant Matt Emmert as their new head coach. Emmert leaves the Terrapins after the announcement that the program was being cut last season. He was in College Park for one year, and before that spent two seasons as an assistant at TCU. Roger Williams, located in Providence, Rhode Island (where Emmert was a college star at cross-town URI), is a Division III program. …World and European Championship medalist Caitlin McClatchey welcomed Queen Elizabeth II to the Corby International Pool as a part of the queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour. McClatchey, who now trains with Loughborough, grew up in the area and is has already earned a relay spot on the British Olympic Team. She got the opportunity to have a conversation with the Queen about the Olympics and her training. McClatchey took a bit of a blow in her quest to nail down an individual spot at the upcoming ASA Championships, as she came down with a chest infection during the recent Mare Nostrum series.
