Sprint Free/Breast Specialist Ryan Wood Commits to Evansville

Ryan Wood, a senior at Notre Dame High School in Peoria, Illinois, has verbally committed to swim for the University of Evansville beginning with the 2017-18 season. Wood specializes in sprint free and breaststroke, and swam the 50 free (24th) and 100 breast (44th) at the 2017 IHSA Boys State Championship in February, although his best results came from the Sectional Meet at Pekin.

Wood competes year-round with Redbird Swim Club in Bloomington, Illinois. After logging best times in the 50 free and 100 breast in high school season, Wood has picked up new PBs in the 100/200/500/1000 free this spring.

His top SCY times include:

  • 50 free – 21.64
  • 100 free – 47.60
  • 200 free – 1:44.74
  • 500 free – 4:46.59
  • 100 breast – 59.49
  • 200 breast – 2:15.76

The Purple Aces finished one point behind Ball State at the 2017 MAC Championships. Head Swimming & Diving Coach Rickey Perkins is only losing four seniors; 2/3 of his team was made up of underclassmen this year.
