Sprint Free/Back Specialist Ellary Boyd Commits to Merchant Marine Academy

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ellary Boyd from Custer, Washington has announced her commitment to swim for the United States Merchant Marine Academy. She received her Congressional nomination to attend USMMA from U.S. Congresswoman Suzan DelBene and will begin in the fall of 2020.

“I am excited to accept the appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kingspoint NY and continuing my academic and swimming in a rigorous collegiate program. I am confident the training in and out of the pool will prepare me for a rewarding career after graduation! Looking forward to being a part of the Academy.”

Boyd is a senior at Ferndale High School where she is a Student Council secretary, Honor Society treasurer, and peer mentor. She was a Washington State Senate page and an elected senator to Evergreen Girls State. She has been a team captain for her swim club, Bellingham Bay Swim Team and has competed at ISCA Junior Nationals, USA Swimming Futures, Sectionals, and at Mel Zajac International in British Columbia. As a freshman, Boyd also swam for her high school, finishing 15th at the Washington Girls 3A State Swimming Championships.

Boyd competed in the 50/100 free, 100 back, 100 breast, and 100 fly at the 44th Annual Washington Open in January and picked up new PBs in the breast and fly. In December she swam the 50/100 free and 50/100 back at Pacific Northwest Senior Championships and notched a PB in the 50 back. At last summer’s LSC Senior Championships, she earned best times in both the 50m free and 100m back and finaled in the 50 free.

Boyd is a nice pickup for the Mariners, who finished 4th of 15 teams at the 2020 Metropolitan Collegiate Championships. Her best times would have placed her in the A finals of the 50 free and 100 free and the B finals of the 100 back and 200 free. She would have been the top backstroker on the squad and would added firepower to the medley relays and to the 200 free relay.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 free – 24.25
  • 100 free – 54.37
  • 200 free – 2:03.63
  • 50 back – 28.17
  • 100 back – 1:01.64
