Siobhan Haughey Heads Up Hong Kong Olympic Roster

The 2024 Olympic Games are nearly upon us, with action kicking off on July 27th.

The nation of Hong Kong has released its 7-strong roster for the Games, highlighted by freestyle powerhouse Siobhan Haughey.

26-year-old Haughey is among the 6 females named to the lineup while Ian Ho is the sole male on the roster.

Haughey was a two-time individual silver medalist at the postponed 2020 Olympic Games, earning runner-up status in both the 100m and 200m freestyle events.

This time around she’s joined by teammates Stephanie Au, Camile Cheng, Cindy Cheung, Natalie Kan and Hoi Lam Tam.

Haughey currently ranks as the top swimmer in the world in the 100m free, courtesy of the Hong Kong national record of 52.02 established at the Berlin stop of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup last October.

She currently ranks 4th in the world in the 200m free with the 1:54.08 produced in Budapest.

Haughey also checks in among the world’s best in the 100m breast, owning a career-best 1:05.92 from this year’s World Championships.

For his part, Ho is the fastest Hong Kong swimmer ever in the men’s 50m free, owning a lifetime best of 21.83 from Doha.

Hong Kong swimming governing body was hit by a series of scandals and dominated local news there

It may become distraction for some of their swimmers if Hong Kong media ask for their opinions.

Five time Olympian for Stephanie Au! Still remember her days in Cal and she has been hanging around for over 15 years already.

The women’s 100m freestyle, women’s individual epee and men’s individual foil are Hong Kong’s best chances of winning Olympic gold

Definitely a medal contender and strong competitor.

Her events are loaded and she will need to dig very deep even for bronze.

Going to be a fast Games.

I have a feeling that Haughey is gonna attempt the 200 free / 100 breast double, as her ceiling in 200 free is merely a bronze.
