Sinagporean National Record Holder Teo Dislocates Shoulder in Training

Singaporean National Record holder Teo Zhen Ren has dislocated his shoulder during training.

Teo says that it was just a normal dive into the water, and for no obvious reason the shoulder just popped out of its socket.

“I’ll be optimistic (because) life shifts on everyone too. just gotta take it and carry on” Teo said of the injury.

He hasn’t yet gotten a prognosis on his return to training, but with eyes on the 2016 Rio Olympics, hopefully it comes sooner rather than later.

In 2012, Teo broke National Records in both the 800 free (8:19.41) and 1500 free (15:43.08) as just a 17-year old. The latter of those was an Olympic “B” time, sneaking under the standard by seven-tenths of a second. It still left him about 17 seconds shy, however, of the time required for an invite to London.

Teo’s most recent international results include a 5th-place finish at the 2013 Southeast Asian Games. He’s still a teenager, meaning that the recovery should be on the quicker side, allowing him to charge back for a shot at Rio.
