Shugarman and Scanlan Announce Verbals to Eastern Michigan Eagles

Alyssa Shugarman from Oswego, Illinois, and Kaitie Scanlan of Waukesha, Wisconsin, have both made verbal commitments to the Eastern Michigan University Eagles for 2017-18.

Alyssa Shugarman

Shugarman is a senior at Oswego High School and swims for Delta Aquatics. According to her parents:

“Alyssa loved how welcoming the coaches and team were on the official visit. Coach Linn spent time answering questions and really getting to know her as an individual, both in and out of the pool. Academically, they have a great Criminology/Criminal Justice program, and she loved the campus as well.” -Aimee Shugarman

Shugarman specilazes in breast, IM, and mid-distance freestyle. She competed in the 500 free, 50/100/200 breast, and 200 IM, and time-trialed the 200 free at the 2016 NCSA Spring Championships. In high school season she qualified for the Illinois state meet in the 100 breast and 200 IM. Her top SCY times include:

  • 50 breast – 30.67
  • 100 breast – 1:05.50
  • 200 breast 2:24.27
  • 200 IM – 2:08.09
  • 200 free – 1:55.84
  • 500 free – 5:01.79

Kaitie Scanlan

Scanlan is a senior at Waukesha Academy of Health Professions. She swims for Waukesha South High School/ Mukwonago Co-Op during Wisconsin high school season and for Waukesha Express Swim Team year-round.

A distance freestyler and and IMer with a mean breaststroke, Scanlan was an A-finalist at this summer’s 2016 Wisconsin 13 & Over Long Course State Championships in the 400/800/1500m free and 200/400 IM, and a B-finalist in the 200 breast. Her best SCY times are:

  • 1650 free – 17:11.98
  • 1000 free – 10:14.87
  • 500 free – 5:03.93
  • 400 IM – 43:2.20
  • 200 back – 2:08.82
  • 200 breast – 2:26.87

Scanlan and Shugarman will join the Eastern Michigan class of 2021 with Carlee Jones of Kentucky, who has also given her verbal pledge to the Eagles.
