Sheldon Lamb went ham at the Iowa Swimming Short Course Championships two weeks ago, winning seven individual titles and five relay crowns at the Iowa Swimming Short Course Championships in the 13-14 age group.
The 13-year-old from the Ames Cyclones Swim Club dominated his age group in spite of being in the younger half.
Lamb’s Individual Results, 13-14 Age Group
| Place | Time | Drop | |
| 50 free | 1st | 21.38 | -0.02 |
| 100 free | 1st | 47.31 | -0.38 |
| 50 back | 1st | 23.90 | -0.73 |
| 100 back | 1st | 50.70 | -1.66 |
| 200 back | 1st | 1:51.90 | -1.62 |
| 100 breast | 1st | 58.51 | -2.17 |
| 100 fly | 1st | 50.78 | -2.29 |
His relay results were equally as impressive. Along with his Ames teammates, he was on winning relays in all five events, including a 20.58 in the 50 free and 46.87 in the 100 free on rolling starts.
His swims in the 50 back and 100 back were both new LSC Records in the 13-14 age group. The 50 broke Mason Turner‘s old mark of 24.28, while the 100 broke Clayton Treharne’s record of 51.34 from just a few weeks ago at his high school district meet.
He wasn’t the only swimmer with double digit gold medals at the meet. Andrew Seifert from Kohawk Aquatics picked up 10 wins at the meet.
His run included new best times in the 50 fly (21.59), 100 fly (47.49), and 50 free (19.83). The latter of those results is his first time under 20 seconds and a .56 second improvement.
Seifert two weeks earlier won Iowa High School State Championships in the 100 free and 100 breast as well.
Seifert, who has had a huge senior season, is committed to NAIA Dordt University on the other end of the state from his home near Cedar Rapids. He is likely the best American to ever commit to an NAIA University, and might be the best recruit of any nationality in NAIA history too.
On the girls’ side, Addie DeYoung of the Waukee Waves won 10 events as well, including six individual events in the 13-14 age group.
DeYoung’s individual results
| Place | Time | Drop | |
| 50 free | 3rd | 24.56 | -1.28 |
| 50 back | 1st | 26.44 | -0.38 |
| 100 back | 1st | 57.07 | -0.93 |
| 200 back | 1st | 2:05.14 | -1.34 |
| 50 fly | 1st | 26.37 | -0.20 |
| 100 fly | 1st | 58.12 | -2.02 |
| 200 IM | 1st | 2:11.01 | -2.02 |
Ironically, the event that she didn’t win, the 50 free, was maybe her most impressive drop – improving her lifetime best by 1.28 seconds.
That race was won by her teammate Ashlyn Burns, who also had a huge drop of 1.49 seconds to finish in 24.29. Burns also won the 50 breast (30.01) and 100 breast (1:05.21), dropping 5.34 seconds in the latter race.
Other Meet Highlights and Winners:
- Lucy Parson from USS Destroyer swept the breaststroke races in the open group. She won the 50 in 28.81, the 100 in 1:02.27, and the 200 in 2:19.89. The 100 breast was a new best time by .27 seconds. Parson is a Louisville commit in the class of 2027.
