FLASH MOMENTS
The Red Flash opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as Rubio, Tanis, Laryssa Webster, and Katie Webster posted a 1:50.39 — just under a second behind LIU’s winning time.
In the distance events, senior Morgan Moniz placed second in the 1000 freestyle (11:19.42), while Abbey Kutchel added a fourth-place finish (11:50.42).
Reegan Brown led a strong performance in the 200 freestyle, taking first in 2:02.81, followed closely by Ella Andersonin second (2:03.69) for the Red Flash’s first 1–2 finish of the season.
Rubio continued her dominant form in the backstroke, sweeping the 100 (58.06) and 200 (2:08.66).
Weth captured the 100 breaststroke (1:07.01) and added a third-place finish in the 200 IM (2:20.28), while Abby King contributed a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 (1:10.97) and 200 breaststroke (2:31.55).
Turner delivered a standout triple-win performance — taking first in the 200 butterfly (2:09.55), 200 breaststroke (2:26.68), and 200 IM (2:11.06) — pacing the Red Flash across stroke and mid-distance events.
Tanis added another victory for Saint Francis, winning the 100 freestyle (54.72), with Brown and Andersonclose behind in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Saint Francis closed the meet with a runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay, as Tanis, Rubio, Katie Webster, and Maura Webster combined for a season-best 3:40.45 — less than a second behind LIU.
Rubio, Turner, Weth, Tanis, and Brown combined for eight event wins for Saint Francis.
Turner led the team with three individual victories, while Rubio swept both backstroke events.
The Red Flash went 1–2 in the 200 freestyle (Brown–Anderson) and earned top-three finishes in 12 of 14 events, showcasing strong depth across all strokes and distances.
With dual-meet wins over LIU (134–86) and Manhattan (179–33), the Red Flash continue their strong start to the 2025–26 season.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University men’s and women’s swimming teams started off their 2025-26 seasons on Saturday morning.
The LIU men’s team defeated Manhattan University 171-83, while the women’s team split with Manhattan and Saint Francis University, defeating the former 124-42 and falling to the latter 134-86.
LIU won every event in the men’s competition, highlighted by junior Mehmet Tasbasi in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, and freshman Mario Poulsen in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, and 200-yard individual medley. The Sharks were led by other strong performances by senior Emilio Garcia (50, 100-yard freestyle), junior Aleksa Vujosevic (50, 100-yard freestyle), freshman Jadon Do (100, 200-yard backstroke; 200-yard breaststroke), sophomore Finn Drysdale (500, 1,000-yard freestyle), and sophomore Maks Wozny (500, 1,000-yard freestyle).
The Sharks again won every event over Manhattan in the women’s competition and had outright event wins by senior Anapaula Gomez Janeiro in the 1,000-meter freestyle, sophomore Liene Vientesa in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, and sophomore Julia Allen in the 500-yard freestyle.
LIU returns to action on Nov. 8, when both teams host Wagner College at 11 a.m. in Brooklyn.
