Saint Francis’ Karilyn Quon Named NEC Rookie Of The Week

Saint Francis swimming freshman Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) was named NEC Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. The Red Flash rookie earned two individual wins and was part of two relay wins this past weekend.

In Friday’s meet against Youngstown State, Quon earned first place finishes in the 1,000-yard Freestyle and the 200-yard Backstroke. She also had an impressive performance in the 200-yard IM.

The Arizona native’s first win of the day came in the 1,000-yard Freestyle, when she posted a time of 10:43.03.

Quon then earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard Backstroke, recording a time of 2:06.85. That is the fifth-best time in that event in program history.

Later in the meet, Quon finished in second place in the 200-yard IM, with a time of 2:09.13, which is the 10th-best time in program history in that event.

She also teamed with freshman Kristen Toth (Silver Spring, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti), junior Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and freshman Emily Graziano (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) for a third-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, combining for a time of 1:43.04.

On Saturday, Quon was part of two relay wins in the meet against Duquesne.

She helped the Red Flash start the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard Medley Relay. Quon combined with freshman Erin O’Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), senior Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) and junior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) for a time of 1:48.73.

Saint Francis also ended the meet with a win in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, with Quon teaming with junior Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei), freshman Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Lafferty for a time of 1:38.85.

Quon also posted times of 59.92 in the 100-yard Backstroke and 2:08.51 in the 200-yard Backstroke.

The Red Flash hosts Siena on Saturday for its home finale. The meet begins at 1 p.m. at Stokes Natatorium as Saint Francis celebrates Senior Day as it recognizes Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary).
