The 2026 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships kicked off with impressive performances on both the men’s and women’s sides as swimmers vie for slots on the British roster for this year’s European Championships.
Athletes are also competing for the right to represent their Home Nations of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland at this year’s Commonwealth Games, so more than just championship titles are on the line.
Already tonight, we were treated to 31-year-old veteran James Guy‘s head-turning swim in the men’s 400m free, with the Olympic multi-gold medalist ripping a time of 3:44.04 to put his longstanding British national record in jeopardy.
Olympic teammateย Adam Peaty posted a mark of 58.97, his fastest since the Paris Olympic Games, to take his signature 100m breaststroke, showing he’s back in form after missing last year’s championship season.
The women’s 200m fly sawย Keanna MacInnes‘ winning time of 2:07.02 come within .09 of her lifetime best, to kick off her campaign.
Below is a round-up of roster updates from day one of the championships, although, with discretionary picks on the table, we’ll need to wait until the dust settles from this competition for the final lineups.

- Women’s 4x100m free relay
Swimmers Achieving Northern Ireland QT’s for 2026 Commonwealth Games
- Jack McMillan – men’s 400m free (3:46.82)

Anderson qualified on the 4×100 for England but also hit the 100 consideration time in the heats which will likely be enough to swim it at Commies.
Colbert will need to make way or can three enter?
Three can enter at commonwealths
Is McMillan still representing Northern Ireland?
In the Commonwealth Games all the different “parts” of GB/UK represent themselves.
For example, if you’re from the Isle of Man you’ll represent them, i.e., Mark Cavendish the cyclist being a famous example.
Therefore, Jack will compete for Northern Ireland in the C’wealth Games.
Jack changed his international sporting citizenship from Ireland to GB for competitions like the Olympics and Worlds (events where Team GB competes as a whole). But, as mentioned above, that won’t apply for Commies.
The GB womenโs 4x100m freestyle relay comprising Okaro, Davies, Colbert, and Anderson has also been confirmed, with all four athletes having achieved the required time standard.
Re. The Women’s 200 Butterfly qualifiers (well, sort of): “The Adventures of Betsy Wizard & Lucy Fox” sounds like a YA fictional series that I would want to read. ๐
I know he made the time but the selection policy is only for top 2 so Max Morgan wouldn’t be in for Euros yet.
And Goodburn did the Scottish standard in the heats, and being the fastest Scot in a 100 race he’s definitely in
I thought that team GB would send up to 4 athletes per event, if they had. Because at Euro Champs you can do that. And some countries do that.
Well, that’s sad, because Max could be on the team and, at least, swim the prelims and see what happens.
Anna Morgan is Scottish not English
Also Lucy Grieve made the Scottish 2Fly standard in the B final.
Theodora Taylor achieved the Welsh standard In the 100 free.
Thanks! Lots to keep track of! ๐
