Rio Torch Relay Day 52: Várzea Grande and Cuiabá

On each day of the official Olympic torch relay, carrying the Olympic flame to the Olympic cauldron in Rio de Janeiro, the Rio2016 Facbeook page is posting brilliant and spectacular images from one of the world’s unique and most beautiful landscapes. Each day until August 5th, we will bring you these stunning images.

On day 52 of the Olympic torch relay the torch went to Mato Grosso, visiting the cities of Várzea Grande and Cuiabá. Várzea Grande is located just South of Cuiabá and has a population of about 184,000. Cuiabá is the capital city of the state of Mato Grosso, with a population of about 580,000. It is located in the centre of South America and forms the metropolitan area of the state.
