How It Happened
Rhode Island divers Marta Baumann and Lily Hsu qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division I Zones with their respective performances in the 1-meter dive to help the Rams defeat Providence 192-88 Wednesday night.

Baumann and Hsu finished 1-2 in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, accounting for two of URI’s 12 victories in 15 events. The duo combined for 26 of the 29 team points Rhode Island picked up in the dives.

In the 1-meter event, Baumann had a score of 275.33, just ahead of Hsu’s score of 272.85. Both women locked up a spot at the Zone A competition that will be held at West Virginia University from March 6-8. Baumann qualified for zones for the second year in a row.

In the 3-meter dive, Baumann had a winning score of 250.28, just edging Hsu’s tally of 250.05. Teammate Carleigh Schlissel gave Rhode Island a 1-2-3 sweep with her score of 245.10.

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Providence College women’s swimming & diving team traveled to Kingston, R.I. to take on the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday, Nov. 9 in dual meet action.

The Rams claimed a 192-88 victory over the Friars on the night. There were several notable performances by the Friars, including three first-place finishes in individual events. PC claimed a win in the 100-yard free, and in the 50-yard free and the 100-yard backstroke, Providence swept the top-2 spots.

50-yard freestyle: Taylor Loud (1st) 25.07; Courtney Reilly (2nd) 25.10
100-yard freestyle: Courtney Reilly (1st) 54.20
100-yard backstroke: Grace Erickson (1st) 1:01.06; Sally Alrutz (2nd) 1:01.30

The Providence men’s and women’s programs return to action at the Harold Anderson Invitational on Nov. 18-20, which will be held in Kingston, R.I. Trials start each day at 10:00 a.m. with finals beginning at 6:00 p.m.
