Reading, PA native Vincent Filippini Commits to Bucknell University

Vincent Filippini, a senior at Muhlenberg High School in Reading, Pennsylvania, has made a commitment to swim for the Bucknell Bison in 2015-16.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of the Bucknell Bison family. I choose Bucknell because I have not been exposed to a team near as close as the Bucknell men and women. I am very excited to honor the past, and work hard in order to make the future all the better. To me Bucknell seems like the perfect place to do that.”

Filippini is a YMCA national finalist in the 100 and 200 freestyles. In high school, he swam the 200 and 500 freestyle events and anchored Muhlenberg’s 200 free relay at the 2014 PIAA Boys AAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Filippini holds the school record in both those events.

Filippini now swims for Reading YMCA Stingrays. He had been with the Pottstown YMCA for many years until last June, when head coach Kathy Cook was abruptly let go and her entire coaching staff resigned in protest. Swimmers fled to nearby teams, and good friends and teammates were separated. One of the things Filippini is most looking forward to at Bucknell is the chance to swim with two of his former Pottstown teammates again. “The opportunity to reunite with my former teammates and continue the legacy in a different way is special,” Filippini told SwimSwam.

Filippini’s best short-course times include:

100y free: 46.61
200y free: 1:41.25
500y free: 4:36.60
100y fly: 52.03
200y fly: 1:56.04
