Quah Ting Wen made SEA Games history today in Bangkok. At 33 years of age, the Singaporean national struck gold in the women’s 100 fly. It was her 34th gold medal and 63rd overall medal at the SEA Games, making her the island nation’s most decorated athlete in SEA Games history.
She won the 100 fly in 59.76, just one hundredth ahead of fellow Singaporean Jing Wen Quah. Her gold streak now spans 18 years, starting with a 400 IM gold she earned at the 2007 SEA Games, also in Thailand. She has won gold at every single SEA Games in between.
As previously mentioned, her SEA Games medal haul now stands at 63. She passes teammate Joscelin Yeo to become Singapore’s most decorated athlete ever at the games.
Other SEA Games Day 4 Notes
- Letitia Sim scored yet another meet record, going 1:06.79 for a decisive 100 breaststroke win
- Hoe Yean Kiew earned Malaysia its first swimming gold medal of the games, turning in a 1:48.64 in the men’s 200 free
- Kamonchanok Kwanmuang is shaping up to be the host nation’s golden girl of the games. She picked up her second gold of the week with a 4:46.30 400 IM
- The men’s 100 fly also went to a seasoned Singaporean veteran: 29-year-old Quah Zhen Wen. He defended his 2023 title with a 52.25 outing, bringing his gold total to 34.

Jing Wen Quah is not just a fellow Singaporean, but her younger sister. And the 100m fly winner, Zheng Wen Quah, is their brother. Ting swam for UCLA, Jing for Texas A&M, and Zheng for Cal.
